Executive Director, B.J. Clark,
bjclark@esaintl.com
- As you read this newsletter, you'll see that Epsilon
Sigma Alpha's Annual Leadership Conference is an
important element in developing and sharing new ideas
for the future of ESA. This is the time when so many of
ESA's leaders see and recognize that the power of
example is the most powerful leadership tool that a
person can possess. They learn that ESA leaders are
prepared to do what they ask others to do, and this is
the message I have for you this month.
If you want to lead, you need to show by example.
You cannot ask others and then tell them how you are
just "too busy" to do what you are asking of them. As a
result, I ask each of you to take stock this month to
see if you are actually "doing" what you would have
others do. Whether you're asking at the chapter level,
the state level, or the International level, each of us
needs to do what we think others should. We should
exemplify the ideals, ethics, and sharing spirit that we
ask others to consider.
Ironically, the wonderful result of taking this
"example" business seriously is that the more we
exemplify the more others take our leadership role
seriously. At leadership this year, we had presentations
by people who took what they had learned and shared it
with their states and regions. They had worried that
changes they made would result in criticism, but instead
they learned that their results produced huge ovations.
So this spring if you want to tell others to
recruit new members, recruit one yourself. If you want
to start a new project, agree to chair it yourself. If
you want more people to run for office, run yourself.
Making an example of yourself is the best way to make
the changes you want to see in the world around
you.

- WOW! The Leadership Training Seminar held in Denver
was outstanding! The enthusiasm and new ideas of all who
attended are very exciting for the future of Epsilon
Sigma Alpha. We are definitely on a roll and the
excitement is spreading!
The tentative agenda for the International
Convention in Chattanooga, TN, is now posted on the IC
web site. I would like to share some highlights with all
of you... on Wednesday, July 9, there will be a very
special Gala Event to celebrate and honor our members
who have reached 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, or 60 years
of service to ESA. Please be sure to fill out the
service recognition form (also located on the IC web

Gala. Flora Burns, Past IC President, has lots of plans
to make this event very special for all who attend.

seeing all of these creations at our International Council
Convention in Chattanooga, TN! Please consider submitting an
entry to the Association of the Arts presentation this year.
We have so many talented women and we want you to share your

at their state convention and then submit those entries for IC
Convention. The entry form is on the website and the incoming
State Presidents were given copies at Leadership. The deadline
for entries is June 1, 2008. Send in the forms now and we will
look forward to a great display in Chattanooga! If you have

Jr. Membership Chairman, Judi York,
jyork@yorkes.com - We have
just returned from Leadership in Colorado and are very excited
about all that we discussed and learned. There is a challenge
to every state, to form at least one new chapter between now
and May 31, 2008. Just imagine what would happen if we got
that many new chapters!
Beginning March 1, 2008 through May 31,
2009, the first new member application received at
Epsilon Sigma Alpha Headquarters from any existing member
sponsor will earn that sponsor a $10 ESA merchandise gift
certificate as a thank you for caring about the future of ESA
and for sharing our gift with a friend.
"Show" ESA to everyone you know, don't just
tell them about it. We do so much in our communities it should
be easy. Invite you friends, neighbors, and co-workers to ESA
sponsored events. Let them see what it means to be part of a
wonderful organization like ours. Show them the pride and fun
we have doing what we do. Show them the friendship and caring
of our ESA sisters. Once they have experienced ESA they will
want to join!
Random Acts of Friendship
- Each
month, we'll randomly draw and share the story of an Epsilon
Sigma Alpha member who has sponsored a new member.
Pamela Martin of Alpha Delta Chapter of Mitchell, SD,
sponsored Marlene Haines. Pamela has been a member of ESA for
10 years and has sponsored two new members. She is currently
the Chapter Treasurer. Thank you for sharing ESA with
others! |

State Presidents Chairman, Verneene
Forssberg, vernf66@sbcglobal.net
- Certified Leadership Seminar to be held in Chattanooga, TN -
Wednesday, July 9, 2008. "Imagine the
Possibilities – The Power to Inspire."
Inspired thinkers have historically impacted our
advancement through time. The power to inspire others is what
makes a great leader. Inspirational leaders have the
confidence to take the risks when it is time. There is power
in this leader's soul to gather energy when things are going
slow to prepare for the trials ahead. There is power in taking
what we imagine is possible and making it a reality.
Members of ESA are admitted to this Certified
Leadership Seminar free of charge and will hear two dynamic
and nationally recognized speakers:
- "Inspirational Humorists," Lisa Earle McLeod - A
top-selling author, nationally syndicated columnist and
sought-after-media personality, Lisa provides a wickedly
funny take on people and problems that vex us all.
- "Courageous & Bodacious," Mary Foley - One of the
hottest female motivational speakers in America today,
engaging audiences coast to coast. As a motivational
speaker, Mary shares lessons learned and strategies for
career and personal success.
You won't want to miss these two dynamic leadership
speakers!
