ESA - Good friends -  Each month, we'll e-mail stories and ideas to each Epsilon Sigma Alpha member you can use right away as you share your ESA experience with others.

Team ESA needs you!  With 64 members we are only half way to our goal of 125 members, but our team is still making a big impact in the fight against catastrophic childhood diseases. Presently Team ESA has been toggling back and forth from 2nd to 3rd place in the over all team standings. We need you to join our team! If you are unable to walk or run, would you consider being a cheerleader or making a team donation? Donations are requested to be in by November 10, 2007. Visit www.stjudeheroes.org/esa > Support Team ESA.

Are your friends missing out? Epsilon Sigma Alpha Headquarters e-mails updates, news, stories, and ideas to all ESA members each month. If friends in your chapter are not receiving these e-mails, encourage them to update their member record at www.esaintl.com > Member Center > Member Record or by contacting ESA Headquarters at esainfo@esaintl.com or 970.223.2824.

ESA members have been extremely lucky in California. Dorothy Hendricks is fine and Cheri Wickwire was able to return home the same day she evacuated. Janet Falconer has not been able to get back into her home but thinks it is alright. Beverly Hubbard does not have any water but has returned home. Several of those that had been evacuated have now been able to return home. My daughter was able to go back to her house yesterday. At this point it appears our members have been extremely lucky!
Thanks for everyone's concern.
Sandy Folz, California State President

Any further updates will be posted on the message board at www.esaintl.com > Member Center > Message Board.

The name "Chattanooga" comes from the Creek Indian word for "rock coming to a point." This refers to Lookout Mountain which begins in Chattanooga and stretches 88 miles through Alabama and Georgia. Take an unforgettable journey high atop Lookout Mountain. Enjoy the quiet woodland paths and gardens, rock formations, and 400 species of foliage. Cast a wish upon the 140-foot high falls. Each step is a discovery as magical adventures await you!

Starbucks, anyone? Epsilon Sigma Alpha is good friends, good works, and good times. To help you celebrate good friends, we’re offering to treat you and your friend to a relaxing beverage at Starbucks. The rules are simple. During November 2007, share your ESA experience with a friend. When that friend sends in his or her application and dues (regular member rate; not including Legacy, Men of ESA, DESA, or Élan), we’ll send you a gift card to Starbucks. The new member’s application and dues must be received by November 30, 2007. Use this time to share even more about ESA and welcome your friend. Please direct any questions to ESA Headquarters at esainfo@esaintl.com.

There's a message for you! Visit Epsilon Sigma Alpha's message board at www.esaintl.com > Member Center > Message Board. This is the best means of communicating questions, thoughts, and ideas with other ESA members. Have you visited it lately? Categories include: Business Opportunities, Collegiate, Care Connection, Chapter News, ESA Programs, Fund-Raisers, Hope for Heroes, and Membership Ideas. Be sure to keep an eye out on the Care Connection to find out how your California sisters are managing with the fires threatening their homes, and how you might be able to help them recover.

IC Workshop Coordinator, Glenn Gay, ggay123@cox.net - Doesn't July 2008 seem so far away? Turn around, ladies and it'll be here! We are planning great workshops for the International Council Convention in Chattanooga, TN and hoping you are planning to attend. This year we want to give each of you something special to take away from the workshops... whether it's a philanthropic project, a craft project, a cooking skill, or even a ways & means project. These are just some of the possibilities. There will be something specific for you! Stay tuned and let your imagination run wild... we are.

Early registration deadline is December 1! Join us for the Annual Leadership Training Seminar. We're developing the content specifically for you to gain personal leadership skills while having fun networking with other Epsilon Sigma Alpha members! The event will take place February 7-10, 2008 at the Red Lion Hotel Denver Central in Denver, CO. See www.esaintl.com > Leadership > Conferences for more details and a registration form.

Forms online - Be sure to check out www.esaintl.com > Member Center > Forms. We've collected various forms helpful as you lead your chapter, plan fund-raising events, and share ESA with others!

Random Acts of Friendship - Each month, we'll randomly draw and share the story of an Epsilon Sigma Alpha member who has sponsored a new member. Heather Hughes of Sigma Phi of University of South Carolina at Columbia, SC, sponsored Aubrie Mayson. Heather and Aubrie grew up in the same town, and Heather told Aubrie about her amazing experience with ESA at USC. As soon as Aubrie came to USC, Heather invited her to become a member. "ESA is the best thing I have done in my college career, and I try to tell everyone about it," shares Heather. Heather will receive a gift card from Target. Congratulations, Heather!

IC Circle Of Life-Junior Coordinator, Jodi Lang, jodi@soundinternet.com -  Congratulations to every member of Team ESA preparing for the St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend! If you are unable to participate, please consider sponsoring a member of Team ESA at www.stjudeheroes.org/esa > Support Team ESA. Any Team ESA individual raising $500 is invited to bring a guest to the pasta dinner the night before the race. Wouldn't it be great if every Team ESA member was at this pasta dinner?

Members of Team ESA, please complete the Check Submission Form (found in the fundraising section of your St. Jude Heroes Resource Packet) when sending checks into ALSAC/St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Postage-paid envelopes are also provided in the front pocket of your packet.

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital® kicks off the fourth annual Thanks and Giving® campaign this holiday season. Launching the week of Thanksgiving and continuing through the end of the year, the Thanks and Giving campaign is an unprecedented coming together of celebrities, media, retail, and corporate partners that asks consumers to "Give thanks for the healthy kids in your life, and give to those who are not." You can help by shopping at retailers that display the magnifying glass logo. To learn more about this program and to see a list of fundraising partners visit the St. Jude website at www.stjude.org/tgcs/

Don't forget! November is the last month to enter your event idea in Epsilon Sigma Alpha's New Idea Search. Your event could win! For details, visit www.esaintl.com > Member Center > Resources > Circle of Life > New Idea Search.

State Presidents-Senior Chair, Verneene Forssberg, vernf66@sbcglobal.net - Motivation and leadership... people can be motivated by many forces such as beliefs, values, interests, fear, and worthy causes. What instills motivation in one will not impact another person. If we could put an exact formula to what motivates people, our lives as leaders would really be easy. Develop your leadership style by understanding that your decisions and actions as a leader will be guided by how people may react to their different needs. As a leader you have the power to impact and influence motivation in those you lead. Here are a few basic guidelines:

  • Allow the needs of your team to coincide with the needs of Epsilon Sigma Alpha.
  • Reward good ideas and implementations with specific and prompt actions.
  • Set the example you want your team to follow.
  • Develop the esprit de corps (team spirit) and moral (spiritual state) with the people you lead.
  • Allow the team to be a part of the planning and problem solving process developing trust.
